What is Playing for Success?

Playing for Success (PfS) is a national initiative, established by the DfES in partnership with the FA Premier League, the Nationwide League and their clubs, and Local Authorities. It aims to contribute to raising attainment, especially in urban areas, by setting up Study Support Centres in professional football clubs and other sporting venues.

Centres are managed by experienced teachers, a teaching assistant and support staff. They use the medium and environment of sport to support work in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT, with a focus on addressing the need of underachieving young people, mainly in Years Six to Nine. The inititative places a strong emphasis on improving pupils' attitudes and motivation to learn and school staff are asked to carefully select the appropriate pupils for the programme.

Each year we send out invitations to all Nottingham City Schools to attend one of the three Nottingham PfS centres. We operate on a three term year with four schools attending each of the three centres for a period of ten weeks. Transport to and from the centre, as well as healthy refreshments are provided free of charge.
