The Nottingham Forest Study Support Centre was one of the earliest Playing for Success centres and was officially opened by HRH the Duke of Edinburgh in December 1999.
Since that time over 3,500 pupils have attend Study Support courses, whilst other educational initiatives have provided opportunities for a further 1,500 learners to access the centre.
The centre became only the fourth nationally to achieve the Quality in Study Support Mark at Established Status in November 2003 and the first to be awarded the Investors in People Mark in December 2002.
Purpose
The purpose of the Nottingham Forest Study Support Centre is to raise standards in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT by building pupil confidence and self esteem. Using the environment and medium of sport as a motivational tool pupils are given the opportunity to attain, develop and refine skills enabling them to access and obtain greater knowledge and understanding across the whole curriculum.
Aims
The Centre aims to:
- Develop independent, motivated and confident pupils, who are able to access all potential learning opportunities.
- Build upon a learning environment, which is both secure and exciting, encouraging high expectations from pupils and staff.
- Raise standards in literacy numeracy in line with the National Literacy and Numeracy strategies
- Continue to develop programmes of study, which are clearly structured, yet able to meet the needs of all pupils.
- Build upon and develop closer partnerships with identified schools.
- Provide frequent opportunities for pupil success.
- Develop a range of mentor accreditation schemes for volunteer staff.
Develop key skills in:
- Communication, Problem Solving, Information Technology, Working with Others, Numeracy and Improving Personal Learning and Performance.
During the last year the Centre has achieved a number of notable land marks culminating in a celebration event held at the beginning of December. First team players Michael Dawson and Andy Reid along with Club manager Paul Hart and representatives from local schools, the Lea, Nottingham Forest Directors and Experian joined up for a lunch marking our 5,000 th user and the start of our 5th year.

In the last year the Centre has also:
- Achieved Investors In People Status in December 2002.
- Achieved Established Status within the Quality in Study Support programme.
- Led workshops at the Playing for Success National Conference.
- Supported the development and opening of two further Study Support Centres within Nottingham at the National Ice Centre and Nottingham Tennis Centre.
- Held two graduation evenings involving almost 500 pupils and parents.
- Enjoyed the support of nine Nottingham Forest Academy players who have worked as Study Coaches within the Centre.
- Hosted a delegation visit from FC Köln.
- Given away 2,000 free books to Study Centre pupils and local children through the Reading is Fundamental project.
